World Environment Day Observed By Planting Precious Tree Species in School of Engineering Premises

Kathmandu University School of Engineering (KUSE) and the NGO Love Green Nepal (LGN) jointly organized a special tree plantation program to mark the World Environment Day (WED) on June 5th 2009, which was observed globally with the slogan - Your planet needs you! Unite to combat climate change. The tree plantation program was inaugurated jointly by the Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University Prof.Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma, Dean of School of Engineering Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa and LGN President Ms. Amira Dali. The tree plantation program was participated by KU Officials and students and LGN members, staff and girl students receiving scholarship from Nepal Educational Scholarship Fund under LGN. A total of 101 tree seedlings were planted in the newly constructed Ingehansgon Building ( Block 8 )of School of Engineering premises. The tree species planted were:  Ginkgo biloba, Cinnamomum glaucescens, Michelia champaca, Prunus cerasoides; Psidium guajava, Cinnamomum camphora, Fraxinus floribunda, etc.

The tree plantation program was expected to contribute to developing greenery and maintaining natural environment in the University premises. The tree plantation program was coordinated by Associate Professor and Head of Mechanical Engineering Department Dr. Bim Prasad Shrestha and LGN Executive Director Mr. G. K. Sangat.
