On April 3rd, 2023, a delegation from the University of Newcastle, Australia, led by Prof. Francesco Paolucci, Assistant Dean-International of the College of Human and Social Futures and Ms. Ujala Gulati, the Regional Manager of Strategic Partnership visited Kathmandu University to discuss potential collaboration. The meeting included discussions about the possibility of introducing joint degrees between the two institutions, particularly in the field of healthcare management and economics.
Dr. Uddhab Pyakurel, Act. Director, the Vice Chancellor’s office of Global Engagement provided a brief introduction about Kathmandu University. In the meeting the possible modalities of collaboration between the two institutions were discussed which included the possibility of introducing a degree awarded jointly by both the institutions.
Prof. Paolucci highlighted the growing demand in the field of healthcare market in the global scenario and that the strategic partnership between KU and The University of Newcastle in this field could be mutually beneficial for both the institutions. Prof. Achyut Wagle, Registrar, highlighted some of the difficulties KU has faced in managing the joint degrees and underlined that collaboration should start in one or two disciplines before being scaled up based on results. Further exploration of collaboration possibilities will involve officials from the relevant schools of both universities.
