Project Work on IEE initiated as per MoU signed between MLD and KU/School of Science
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Ministry of Local Development (MLD) and Kathmandu University, School of Science was signed at the Environment Management Section of MLD on 23 March 2012. The objectives of this partnership between MLD and KU/SOSc are to carry out the necessary environmental study, monitoring activities, enhance the capability of the Ministry, promote cooperation between government and academic institutions on local development issues, motive students towards quality environmental research and development, establish proactive link, and familiarize students with development processes etc. As a first activity, it was agreed that thirty-two fourth year Environmental Science and Environmental Engineering students shall be provided an amount not exceeding 10,47,900 for undertaking environmental monitoring of 53 rivers of Western, Mid Western and Far Western Regions covering Kailali, Kanchanpur, Dang, Banke, Kapilvastu, Nawalparasi, Tanahun and Kaski districts. Students will remain in field effective from 21st April 2012 for a period from 2-16 days for Auditing of the Initial Environmental Examination (IEE). The project is administered by the Head of the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering and coordinated by the Course Director of the course “Environmental Impact Assessment”.
