World Bank Vice President at KU

Mr. Philippe H. Le Houerou, Vice President of the World Bank, interacted with KU Officials and the students in the central campus.

Mr. Houerou observed Turbine Testing Lab (TTL), which received World Bank support through University Grants Commission (UGC) under Second Higher Education Project (SHEP), matching grant scheme.

Kathmandu University School of Engineering and School of Science are also accredited through Quality Assurance Assessment (QAA) in 2013 as per SHEP. The high level visit of the World Bank was significant for reviewing the achievements made by KU through SHEP.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha welcomed Mr. Houerou, Vice President, and Mr. Johannes Zutt, the Country Director of World Bank to Nepal and highlighted the mission, vision and approaches of Kathmandu University. Dr. Shrestha also appreciated the contribution made by the World Bank for quality education particularly in developing countries like Nepal. Furthermore, he assured that the University is committed to implement the program for serving quality education to the needy people of the community.

Mr. Houerou expressed satisfactory remarks on the achievements made by Kathmandu University.

Prof. Dr. Mahesh Banskota, Dean of School of Arts, and Prof. Subash KC, Dean of School of Management, shared their experience and views regarding the program supported by the World Bank. Three students also shared their experiences at KU.

Prof. Dr. Hridayaratna Bajracharya, Technical Advisor of the SHEP Program, UGC, highlighted the success of the implemented programs in different institutions in the country. Prof. Dr. Mahendra Singh, Member of UGC Board, expressed gratitude to the World Bank and also stressed the need of third project for overall quality assurance of the higher education institutions of Nepal.

Prof. Dr. Jyoti Upadhyay presented an assessment report of the completed programs supported by SHEP Program at Kathmandu University.

Prof. Dr. Sanjay Nath Khanal, Director of Affiliation Affairs, coordinated the interaction program.
