Wastewater Treatment Project (WWTP) in the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering (DESE) under the School of Science, Kathmandu University (KU) is seeking a candidate in the position of Research Fellow. The incumbent will be stationed in DESE and work under the direct supervision of Principal Investigator of the Project and guidance of Research Directorate and Consultancy (RDC). Remuneration and other benefits will be as per the RDC, KU rules and regulations.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
RF will work in the Project Cell situated in DESE premises of Dhulikhel campus. The candidate is also expected to work in the Full Scale Wastewater Treatment Facilities in and around of KU. Field visits to the sites and participation in the International Events under the captioned topic are also anticipated.
RF will play a role of leading Researcher in carrying out the activities of the project.
RF will investigate the issues of wastewater collection and treatment of including the Reed-bed treatment systems in Banepa, Dhulikhel and Panauti Municipalities.
RF will play a key role in organizing workshop, conference, symposium, seminar and other events in KU or in Nepal in general.
RF will take actions, prepare documentation and carry out follow-ups essential for writing proposals, periodic reports and final reports of the project.
RF will take actions, prepare documentation and follow-up essential for grant seeking, taking IWA and other membership to DESE, subscription of journals and other publications
RF will communicate and liaise with the Dean's Office, RDC, other Administration Units and Finance office in purchasing the office items, laboratory accessories and taking approvals.
RF will communicate and liaise with the Municipalities, Research Agencies and Government Authorities in carrying out the project activities as well as organizing events.
RF will co-ordinate and take a lead role in designing, constructing and operating the anaerobic digester (including retrofitting and rehabilitation works), extension of rock filter and Pilot-scale Wastewater Treatment Plant for managing domestic, institutional and laboratory wastewater in Central and well as other KU Campuses.
RF will also supervise subordinates (Research Associate, Research Assistants, field engineers, student interns) as per the need.
Required qualifications and Competencies
The candidate is expected to have at least Doctoral Degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering (Specialization in Water and Wastewater Treatment), Chemical Engineering (Specialization in Water and Wastewater Treatment) or Bio-chemical Engineering. Prior Experiences in projects similar to the captioned one is considered as an added advantage.
