On September 3, 2025, a delegation from the Embassy of the United States of America, led by Public Affairs Chief Mr. Michael Harker and Cultural Affairs Officer Ms. Erica Alexander, visited Kathmandu University to explore opportunities for academic and cultural collaboration.
In a high-level meeting with KU's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Achyut Prasad Wagle, discussions focused on the evolving US policy of Commercial Diplomacy, emphasizing global trade, youth engagement, and a shift from aid to sustainable partnerships. Dr. Wagle also highlighted KU's interest in linking its startup and incubation initiatives with the United States International Development Finance Corporation and welcomed the idea of hosting US professors for semester-long teaching engagements to strengthen academic capacity.
Following the meeting, the delegates joined an interactive session with KU faculty members who are graduates of US universities. This gathering provided a platform for sharing experiences and exploring ways to integrate international expertise into KU's academic programs. Faculty members expressed enthusiasm for future collaborations that could enhance curriculum design, research opportunities, and global engagement across disciplines.
The visit concluded with a tour of the Nepal Technology Innovation Center-NTIC, where the delegates explored cutting-edge facilities and learned about ongoing research and innovation projects. An engaging discussion with the NTIC team showcased the center's role in advancing technology and entrepreneurship in Nepal.
The visit reaffirmed the US Embassy's commitment to strengthening educational and cultural ties with Kathmandu University, paving the way for impactful partnerships that empower students, faculty, and innovators.
