Student Teams Win Ncell App Camp's Category Award 2014
A team of KU students led by Chandan Gupta, MS by Research student at Department of Computer Science and Engineering, has won the Ncell App Camp category winner award 2014 under corporate solution category. The team comprises Amit Joshi from final year, Ashmit Bhattarai and Pratik Shrestha from 3rd year. The team presented their app named Opinio.
Opinio analyzes the sentiments and opinions of people and categorizes them into positive, negative and neutral comments. It gathers sentiment related to a product/service/business from around the web (social media, blogs and news portals). On the basis of these sentiments it adds on features like business benchmarking, in-depth analysis of sentiments and an aggregated overview over customer feedbacks. Business houses can benefit from this app by listening to their customersfeedback and suggestions. It also helps a business to pinpoint their own weakness and areas of improvements.
According to Chandan Gupta, Team Leader of SentiNep, the team will use the prize money in office setup and marketing their product. “Since we all are students, this cash prize makes it more convenient to take our business further,” he said. The team has expected to publish their app online within next three months.
Similarly, another team led by Rohit Man Amatya, MS by Researcher student at Department of Science and Engineering, has also bagged the Ncell App Camp category winner award 2014 under tourism solution category. Other team members include Rupak Raj Ghimire, Ujjwal Devkota, Shalil Awaley and Milan Thapa. The team presented their app named “Lipi, the Script.
Lipi combines two technologies, respectively the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Machine Translation (MT), and provides translated text to images from English to Nepali and vice-versa. The application which currently uses Google Translate as its primary Machine Translation Application and Tesseract OCR at the back end is considered to be a useful application especially to the tourists coming to Nepal who do not understand the Nepali language.
