Kathmandu University (KU) in collaboration with Survey Department (SD), Land Management Training Center (LMTC), University of Southern Queensland, Australia, and Global Spatial Data Infrastructure (GSDI) organized a pre-conference event, "Sharing SDI Research on Disaster Risk Reduction" at the central premises on 24 November 2015.
Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, Registrar, KU, presented welcome speech in the preconference event. Mr. Krishna Raj BC, Executive Director, LMTC and Mr. Madhusudan Adhikari, Director General, SD, chaired the Technical Session I and II respectively. Dr. Dev Raj Paudel, School of Civil Engineering and Surveying, University of Southern Queensland, Australia, facilitated the program.
Prof. Marguerite Madden, Director, Center for Geospatial Research (CGR), Department of Geography, University of Georgia and Second Vice President of ISPRS presented on Geo-spatial Technologies and People: Respond and Recover. Prof. Kevin McDougall, Head of School of Civil Engineering and Surveying, University of Southern Queensland, Australia, presented on Challenges and Opportunities in utilizing SDI and Crowd.
Similarly, Dr. Nama R. Budhathoki, Executive Director, Kathmandu Living Labs, presented on Digital Innovation for Social Good and Dr. Katie Potts, Centre for Disaster Management & Public Safety (CDMPS), University of Melbourne, Australia presented on Next Generation of Disaster Management. Professor emeritus Armin Gruen, Chair of Information Architecture, ETH Zurich, Switzerland presented UAV technology for Geospatial Data acquisition.
Prof. Dr. Ing. Ramesh Kumar Maskey, Associate Dean, School of Engineering, Kathmandu University chaired the plenary session. Ms. Florencia Tuladhar took the role of Master of Ceremony in the event and Mr. Subash Ghimire, Assistant Professor and Co-ordinator of Geomatics Engineering Program under DCGE had co-ordinated the event at KU.
