NORHED Project Briefing Held

A meeting for NORHED project titled “Sustainable Natural Resource Management
for Climate Change Adaptation in the Himalayan Region- A collaborative project
among Norway, Nepal, Pakistan, and Bhutan” was held at the Office of
Registrar, Kathmandu University.
The meeting was attended by the
Registrar, Dean School of Science, Head and distinguished faculty members from
the Department of Environmental Science & Engineering along with the Chief
of Finance Division and the concerned staff members.
Expected
outputs from this project in nutshell are the following;
- New
Master’s programme dealing with NRM, climate change and sustainable resource
management initiated at Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) and Karakorum
International University, Pakistan (KIU).
- Master’s
programme at KU and Tribhuvan University Institute of Forestry Pokhara Campus
(IOF) updated to include climate change adaptation/mitigation and sustainable
resource management.
- Ph.D.
candidates (faculty from KIU and RUB) enrolled at KU and IOF to do research
related to climate change adaptation and sustainable NRM.
- Other
faculty members at KU and IOF enrolled to upgrade qualifications (Ph.D. or post
doc research) dealing with NRM, climate change adaptation and sustainable NRM.
- Administrative
and support staff at KU, IOF, KIU, and RUB trained.
- National/regional
level training and dissemination workshops conducted jointly.
- Universities
and government agencies collaborate in research and student supervision.
- New
policies formulated incorporating project findings to address climate change
adaptation and sustainable development.
- International
conference organized jointly by partner universities.
- New collaborative project proposals
submitted for funding.

administered for coordination at the Office of the Director, Aquatic Ecology
Centre (AEC).
