Mr. David Penrose joins Kathmandu
University Department of Environmental Science and Engineering in the
capacity of a Fulbright Specialist effective from 28 August 2015. The main
host of the Fulbright Specialist is Prof. Subodh Sharma from KU, and the Co-host is
Mr. Megh Ale from Nepal River Conservation Trust. Dr. Bibhuti Ranjan Jha, KU, will audit the class of Mr. Penrose and later take the lead as
Course Director.
A graduate in Public Health from University of Michigan, Mr. Penrose served as the President of Freshwater Science Society, USA, in the year
2012.
While in Nepal, the U.S. Senior Specialist will be involved in
three main activities. Activity I includes helping Kathmandu University
faculty
in strengthening the existing curricula of M.Sc. Environment and Natural
Resources delivered at Graduate level with the course titled "ENVS 551:
River Ecology and Restoration". He will also be teaching this three
credit hour course to the students. Activity
II involves developing a training package for the school students on the
use of
aquatic insects as indicators of environmental health, as an outreach
program,
and organizing two trainings for those students attending Bagmati
Cleaning
Campaign as a part of their curricula. As a part of Activity III, the Specialist will reach out to
the
public during the Bagmati Cleaning Campaign and demonstrate to them how
the
aquatic insects biodiversity changes with the improvement of water quality.
