KU Welcomed International Students of Buddhist Studies

Kathmandu University organized a welcome program for new International Students of Buddhist Studies at University premises Dhulikhel on 30 August 2012.

Addressing the program Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma said that Buddhist Studies is a very significant program to understand the Nobel person like Siddhartha Gautama and his philosophy of Buddhism which assist us to move on the path of Buddha, path of Dhamma, and the path of Sangha for peace, prosperity and the entire humanity.

Welcoming to the new students, Prof. Dr. Bhadra Man Tuladhar, Registrar of Kathmandu University, recalled past memories when Buddhist Studies was launched for the first time in the university. However, Lord Buddha was born in Nepal; hardly any institutions had started to teach about Buddhism and its proponents in university level. He expressed a very satisfactory remark over the expanding reputation of the program worldwide. Since a couple of years, KU is becoming a centre of attention to attract international students on its various programs. In 2011, there were 1,081international students out of 10,794 total enrollments.  These students were studying at KU’s own Six Schools as well as in other 15 affiliated colleges. Students exporting major five countries were India, Sri Lanka, America, German and Canada respectively. These students were representing from different 39 countries across the globe.

In the program, Mr. Greg Whiteside, Principal of Rangjung Yeshe Institute (known as Seto Gumba) and Student Counselor Ms Tina Lang were also presented.
