In a historic move towards international collaboration, Kathmandu University (KU) of Nepal and Thrangu Vajrayana Buddhist Center (TVBC) in Hong Kong have inked a Definitive Agreement on December 5, 2023. The agreement marks a significant step in the global expansion of KU's Buddhist Studies Program and brings together two esteemed institutions, collectively referred to as the Parties.
KU has partnered with TVBC, a leading Buddhist Studies Center in Hong Kong founded by the Very Venerable Thrangu Rinpoche in 1985. The collaborative effort focuses on offering a Bachelor of Arts in Thrangu Buddhist Studies, recognizing credits for prior and experiential knowledge. The four-year full-time program, commencing in 2023, will enroll 20 students per year and adhere to international academic standards.
Both institutions commit to exploring scholarship opportunities and fostering international student representation. The agreement is set to run for five years, with provisions for renewal, and incorporates dispute resolution mechanisms to ensure a smooth collaborative journey.
Under the leadership of Ms. Ekku Maya Pun, Acting Dean of the School of Arts at KU, and Khenpo Lama Dawa Chhiring, Director of TVBC, this collaboration aims to enrich the global landscape of Buddhist education and research. Dr. Ram Lama and Er. Lakshman Lama had coordinated for the entire cooperation.
