His Excellency Jayant Prasad, Ambassador of India to Nepal, paid a gracious visit to Kathmandu University, School of Arts, Hattiban, Lalitpur on 26 June 2013 to observe the site and discuss with the KU officials about proposed Mahatma Gandhi Studies Centre at KU.

Prof. Dr. Jangab Chauhan, Acting Dean and Head of Department of Languages and Mass Communication, School of Arts, welcomed the Ambassador and highlighted on the purpose of His Excellency's visit.

Addressing the program, Vice Chancellor of KU Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha said that it would be the happiest moment for him when the Centre will come up with its full function. He assured that KU is committed to provide quality education and the proposed Gandhi Centre would be the Centre of Excellence in this regard. He anticipated that the Embassy will fix time frame for searching human and other resources.

Responding to the proposal, His Excellency Jayant Prasad expressed gratitude for the initiation taken by the University. His Excellency also appreciated satisfaction over KU's commitments, promising faculties and available resources. Adding further, he expressed his eagerness to see the Centre at KU disseminating the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi to the global community.

Mr. Daman Nath Dhungana, Chairman of Board of Trustees of KU explained the significance of Gandhi's thoughts in social, cultural and political context. He added that the University will be indebted to the Government of India particularly the Indian Embassy of Kathmandu for supporting the Centre in the name of the 'Global Icon of Peace- Mahatma Gandhi'.

Founder Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma recalled earlier days when KU was launching several programs associated with the Lord Buddha and the Confucius of China.  He said, "Now, this is the high time to establish Mahatma Gandhi Studies Centre at KU where people can get opportunity to study about the great Leader of Peace in the world". Dr. Sharma expressed his trust that the opening of the centre would be a serious beginning.

Mr. Lochan Rijal played Sarangi to honour His Excellency, Mr. Hemraj Kafle presented introductory information about the School of Arts, Dr. Megh Raj Dangal extended vote of thanks and Ms. Ekku Maya Pun conducted the program.

The program was attended by KU officials, faculty members,  Mr. Piyush Srivastav and other distinguished guests from the Indian Embassy.
