On 23 August 2021, the ground-breaking ceremony of the Construction of the Geo-lab Tunnel was held at Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel. The ceremony marked the construction of the 230 meters length and 3.5 meters diameter tunnel.

The project is supported by Energize Nepal and the project partners are Kathmandu University, NTNU, Hydro Tunneling and Research Pvt. Ltd., and Seoul National University. This project will be carried out under the supervision of Assistant Prof. Dr. Shyam Sundar Khadka, Department of Civil Engineering, School of Engineering.

The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, Registrar Prof. Dr. Subodh Sharma and Prof. Dr. Manish Pokharel, Dean of School of Engineering and other delegates were present in the ceremony.
