BRAIN DRAIN VS GAIN SYMPOSIUM 2024

Theme:

Brain Drain Vs Gain: Crafting strategies for youth retention in Nepal

Background

Nepal is currently dealing with economic challenges, resulting in the brain drain of the Youth, forcing them to leave the country in search of better opportunities abroad. The reduced employment opportunities and declining overall quality of life exacerbate the existing issue. The industrial sector, a crucial component of the economy, is facing difficulties primarily due to inadequate government support and limited investments. Consequently, this economic downturn has further promoted the “brain drain" issue. Addressing these interconnected challenges requires a concerted effort from various stakeholders, including the government, educational institutions, industries, and the broader community. Recognizing the situation's urgency, Kathmandu University has initiated different attempts such as the Kathmandu University Employment Promotion Program offering direct employment opportunities to 80 graduates per year. Similarly, in December 2023 Academia industry cooperation, KU organized the Academia-Industry Meet 2023 to provide a platform for representatives from the education sector, industry, and government to convene and engage in meaningful discussions for a collaborative solution. Continuing the effort, Academia Industry cooperation, KU in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Dhulikhel and Rotaract Kathmandu University is organizing the “Brain Drain Vs Gain Symposium 2024” with the theme of crafting strategies for youth retention in Nepal through meaningful discussions between diverse delegates from every sector.
